  • Worcester-based Community Legal Aid moved its Fitchburg office to a new location to meet growing demand for legal help and will soon add an attorney specializing in immigration.  Worcester Business Journal

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters battled a large fire that started in the basement of a Main Street commercial building Monday night in Worcester and caused a partial floor collapse as crews struggled to reach hotspots — officials reported the blaze spread into a shared attic amid thick smoke.  7 News Boston

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mania: The ABBA Tribute will return to The Hanover Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 as singer Melissa Harding leads a show of classic ABBA hits and interactive moments—tickets range from $39.50 to $96.50. Harding, a returning performer in Worcester, invites the audience to enjoy a full ABBA concert experience.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Eight New England independent filmmakers will show horror short films at the Harvest Shorts Festival at Elm Draught House Cinema in Millbury on Oct. 25 with tickets costing $15. Organizer Rob Levinson of Out Of Time Pictures will debut his film 'Ramirez'—inspired by his fear of serial killer Richard Ramirez—while the festival will feature live music and filmmaker Q&A sessions.  Telegram & Gazette

  • On October 17th, Southbridge High School held a ribbon cutting for Massachusetts’ first Sensory Immersion Room — a new facility funded by the Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts and Clark University’s Mosakowski Institute that uses immersive technology and sensory equipment to help students manage stress and mental health needs.  Radio Worcester

  • Worcester City Manager Eric Batista said the former RMV building will not serve as a homeless shelter this winter—city officials are looking for a new space to add emergency beds and aim to open a new shelter next month.  Spectrum News 1

HEALTH NEWS

  • Healthcare providers in Central Mass are fighting a rise in medical misinformation that slows patient care – nonprofit leaders and practitioners are working to provide accurate health information.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Martha Zimmermann, PhD from UMass Chan received a $650,000 four-year award from NIMH to test a text message tool called Reaching Calm—aimed at preventing perinatal anxiety at four obstetric practices. The study will check if early text support helps those at higher risk and guide future mental health care.  UMass Chan Medical School

  • Over the weekend, the Massachusetts Pirates announced they will leave Massachusetts after seven seasons — details for a new home venue and market are still being finalized. The team, which won a championship in 2021, thanked fans as it prepared for its next chapter.  MassLive
