- ➤ Girl Scouts’ 'Fork It Over' will take place August 5 at the AC Hotel in Worcester + local chefs will create sweet and savory dishes using Girl Scout cookie ingredients as organizers preview the fundraiser. - ➤ On Tuesday, July 15, Massachusetts celebrities received six Emmy nominations after a ceremony at the Wolf Theatre in North Hollywood—with nominees including Ayo Edebiri from Dorchester, Uzo Aduba of Boston, Bill Burr from Canton, Conan O'Brien of Brookline, and Meghann Fahy from Longmeadow. - ➤ The Shawna Shea Film Festival started on July 16 and will continue through July 19 in Worcester, with events held at Studio 50 at WICN and the Hilton Garden Inn—tickets are $10 and winners in its screenplay competition will receive awards on July 19. Other events include a free concert by The Chain at Powder Mill Park on July 20 as part of Spencer Parks Recreation Commission’s Summer Concert Series, the Poets Cauldron open mic at The White Room on July 20, a Salute to Disney at Institute Park on July 20 — which will move to July 27 if rain falls — and ArtsWorcester’s Thirteenth Annual One exhibit opening on July 25 featuring over 200 works. - ➤ Massachusetts lawmakers are considering two bills (H.647 and S.360) that would delay school start times so middle and high school students can get more sleep; H.647 would set middle schools at 8 a.m. and high schools at 8:30 a.m., while S.360 would shift them to 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., with both plans set for the 2028 school year. - ➤ Worcester city council voted 8—2 to let the city manager work with community partners to study creative grocery store ideas after a proposal for a grocery store run by the city raised private sector concerns. - ➤ Less than a month after winning a state championship, Millbury High sophomore Ryan Nikiforow helped lead a Central Mass team to win the Bay State Games, a three-day tournament held in Malden from July 7 to 9, by pitching the final two innings in a game won with a 10 to 1 score. The team finished with five wins, no loss and one tie and allowed only 11 runs in six games—earning their second gold medal in 43 years and demonstrating strong teamwork among players from 13 high schools.
