Worcester’s tech festivals pushed the city into a digital future as the Innovation Worcester Tech Fest ran from January 27 to February 6 and drew coders, startup founders, and local artists for hands-on workshops and talks—sessions that explored blockchain, AI, and interactive tech to boost local business and community services.

Schools will be on vacation starting April 21—many local spots have planned fun events for kids and families; Old Sturbridge Village offers a hands-on farm workshop from April 23–27 with free child admission when an adult is present and the EcoTarium will host a nature walk on Earth Day at 2 p.m. at Crow Hill in Worcester. Additional events are set at New England Botanic Garden, Worcester Public Library, the Museum of Worcester, Davis Farmland, and Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary.

Worcester Public Schools superintendent Rachel Monárrez announced in a letter on April 17 that she will resign at the end of June to take a superintendent job in California—she had two years left on her contract and said the move is a personal decision to be closer to her family.

Massport announced that a 20-megawatt solar field will be built on 44 acres on the Leicester side of Worcester Regional Airport and will generate 22.3 million kilowatt hours of clean energy.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2028 & will deliver energy through National Grid & help lower greenhouse gas emissions.

A LendingTree analysis released on April 14 found that a family of three in Boston earning $100K faced a monthly shortfall of $1,613 as essential expenses reached nearly $9,946, while a similar family in Worcester experienced a $699 deficit with expenses totaling $9,032.

Families in other large metros also spent more than their income, making it hard to live on $100K a year.
