  • On Tuesday, Dec. 23, T&G Santa collected donations totaling $56,650.25 to purchase toys for nearly 10,000 children identified by 20 partner organizations, thanks to contributions from readers, local businesses, and civic groups (daily total was $668) with United Way of Central Massachusetts as a main partner.  Telegram & Gazette
  • A tiny northern saw-whet owl that was injured after a collision on Route 2 in Phillipston was rescued by Sarah LeBlanc and her son and taken to Raptor Tales Rescue in Shrewsbury, where it recovered and was released on Dec. 21.  Telegram & Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Worcester hip-hop artist Big Nate Allstar, the winner of our Digital Battle of the Bands, released his music video 'Went Legit' featuring City Hall (lit at night) and downtown streets. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Union members at Nelson Place Elementary School voted 98% in favor of a no confidence motion against principal Mary Sealey on Monday, Dec. 22 — the vote, driven by concerns over leadership, will be discussed at the School Committee meeting on Jan. 8.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Teachers at Worcester Technical held a holiday flash mob on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at the school as students danced to Mariah Carey's popular tune (All I Want For Christmas Is You) before starting their Christmas break. Students recorded the lively event on cell phones.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Asmyra Construction has proposed a three-story apartment building with 40 one- and two-bedroom units and amenities on Millbury St. A hearing was held on Dec.8 and review continues on Dec.29; the plan omits affordable units and the developer will pay into the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.  MassLive
