- ➤ Worcester's annual Festival of Lights will take place on Dec. 5 at Worcester Common and will begin with live music by Ricky Duran before the tree lighting at 6 p.m. The free event will offer ice skating (skates rentable for $6), food vendors, and family activities, supported by the city and local partners. - ➤ The Retailers Association of Massachusetts said that even though inflation is easing, high living costs mean shoppers will limit their holiday spending. Their survey of small businesses predicts a 1.7% rise in local holiday sales compared with higher national forecasts. Worcester Business Journal

- ➤ Doherty High School announced the football field will be named for alumnus and fallen firefighter Jason Menard who died in 2019. The School Committee voted unanimously on November 20 and his family was present at the vote — the first dedication under the new naming policy. Telegram & Gazette
