  • Worcester's annual Festival of Lights will take place on Dec. 5 at Worcester Common and will begin with live music by Ricky Duran before the tree lighting at 6 p.m. The free event will offer ice skating (skates rentable for $6), food vendors, and family activities, supported by the city and local partners.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Worcester Regional Airport has revamped its air service incentives program to offer more benefits to airlines. The program will boost the number of carriers and expand destinations for local travelers.  Worcester Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today the Paradise City Arts Marlborough Winter Show opens at Royal Plaza Trade Center with over 175 local makers on display until Nov. 23—other events include free DIY pet portraits at Worcester Public Library on Nov. 22, a $15 concert by the Central Massachusetts Festival Chorus on Nov. 22, a Thanksgiving Eve party at Electric Haze on Nov. 26, and a $5 Holiday Festival of Crafts at Worcester Center for Crafts from Nov. 28 to Nov. 30.  Telegram & Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Retailers Association of Massachusetts said that even though inflation is easing, high living costs mean shoppers will limit their holiday spending. Their survey of small businesses predicts a 1.7% rise in local holiday sales compared with higher national forecasts.  Worcester Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Doherty High School announced the football field will be named for alumnus and fallen firefighter Jason Menard who died in 2019. The School Committee voted unanimously on November 20 and his family was present at the vote — the first dedication under the new naming policy.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Local sports predictor Tommy Cassell has issued his picks for six Central Mass high school playoff games, forecasting Norwell to beat Hudson on Saturday, Amesbury to win in Division 7, and Northbridge to outplay Cohasset.
