- ➤ Worcester Public Library will host a celebration at its main branch at Salem Square on Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to honor 85 years of its bookmobile program—visitors can explore two bookmobiles, a Talking Book Library van, and a new book bike while submitting name ideas that begin with L. - ➤ Many national chains and retailers offer free meals and discounts for veterans and active duty military in honor of Veterans Day. Offers from brands like Target and Walgreens run from late October until November 11, giving Worcester residents a chance to save on meals and everyday purchases. Telegram & Gazette
- ➤ German manufacturer Physik Instrumente opened a new U.S. headquarters in Shrewsbury to boost its operations in the Americas and address tariff challenges. Worcester Business Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This fall the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill features a display of handmade garden gnomes by local artists — each with its own unique personality that adds charm to the season. CEO Grace Elton said families will enjoy discovering the hidden gnomes around the garden — showcasing local creativity. Radio Worcester
- ➤ Robert Goddard, a Worcester native, fired the first liquid-fueled rocket 99 years ago in Auburn and set the stage for the Space Age. March 16th will mark the 100th anniversary of his launch with planned events including a field celebration at Packachoag Golf Course and an exhibit at the Museum of Worcester—efforts led by The Wonder Mission to honor his legacy. - ➤ Seven nursing students and their faculty from Atlantic Technological University in Ireland visited Worcester State as part of an international exchange program. They attended classes, lab sessions, and discussions with local nursing seniors as well as visited clinical sites — UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital, and Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital. - ➤ MD/PhD student Bethany Berry was re-elected as UMass Chan Medical School’s student representative on the Board of Trustees (she served in 2022–23). She will push for better funding and join the search for a new chancellor after Michael F. Collins steps down in July. UMass Chan Medical School

- ➤ Care Central VNA & Hospice in Gardner has appointed Dr. William McGee (a professor from UMass Chan Medical School’s Springfield campus) as its new hospice medical director; he began his role in October replacing retired Dr. John Harrington. Worcester Business Journal
