Dead Horse Hill, a mile-long, 16% grade rise along Stafford Street connecting Worcester and Leicester, was the site of annual hill-climb races from 1905–1911 that drew more than 7,000 spectators and set a 1909 record of 54 seconds (the downtown restaurant deadhouse hill takes its name from the slope).
