- ➤ A Worcester toy maker, Come Play Products, was one of the first to mass produce plastic pumpkin pails in the 1950s—pails that came in two sizes with sticker eyes, noses, and mouths and were made by workers including many with disabilities hired by founder Robert Freelander in 1946. The historic pails are now displayed at the Fuller Gallery of Industrial History at the Museum of Worcester. Telegram & Gazette

- ➤ The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported that the state's casino industry earned $95.69 million in September, an 8.9% drop from August as online competition increased. - ➤ Massachusetts Department of Secondary Education Commissioner Pedro Martinez visited Worcester Friday, Oct. 31, touring Belmont Street Community School, Worcester Technical High School and Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School. He observed the challenges faced by multilingual learners and discussed the need for more enrichment opportunities and a commonsense cell phone policy—efforts aimed at supporting advanced students and protecting school communities. - ➤ The Healey administration reported that 32% of Massachusetts SNAP recipients are children, 31% are people with disabilities and 26% are seniors among 1,061,460 beneficiaries statewide. In Worcester, officials announced a new fund — more than $1 million allocated — to supplement SNAP benefits as federal funding ends today. MassLive
