- ➤ In Shrewsbury, community members hold a vigil today at SAC Park at 2:00 p.m. to honor Kevin Doherty who was shot on August 28th while walking his six-year-old son to school — the event features live music, raffles and food trucks to support his fiancée and family. Spectrum News 1
- ➤ Quabbin Days, a long weekend event celebrating the region’s community, history, and nature, launched Friday in Belchertown. Towns will host hikes, tours, exhibits and cultural events to share local heritage and outdoor treasures — the event is organized by Friends of the Quabbin with support from the Mass Cultural Council and the Department of Conservation and Recreation. - ➤ Ollie's Bargain Outlet will open its new discount store on Oct. 15 at 353 John Fitch Hwy in Fitchburg — part of a national plan to add nine stores in seven states by the end of October. - ➤ Adults must sign a waiver to join Bertucci's Reaper Pizza Challenge at Bertucci's locations until Nov. 23. Competitors have 15 minutes to finish two slices on their own or a whole pie in a group to win free pizza rewards — the pie is made with Carolina Reaper peppers, hand-crafted meatballs, crispy pepperoni, mozzarella, and Pecorino Romano drizzled with hot honey. - ➤ Fright Nights at the Field: Boo in the Woo is a rain-or-shine haunted event running every Thursday through Sunday until Halloween with guided tours at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. The park also hosts a fall festival for families today and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (haunt tickets start at $29) (fans must be 12 or older for the tours). - ➤ Erica Vanstone, former WFTDA executive director from Charlton, discussed her new book on roller derby’s authentic spirit and media challenges in an interview with Hank Stolz. She will speak at A Great Notion Books today plus the book will be widely available on October 14. Radio Worcester

- ➤ Paul Matthews—CEO of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau—and Anthony Clough presented their report on school building inequities to a state education committee in Boston on Tuesday, showing that outdated facilities in Worcester and other gateway cities limit learning. - ➤ Parents at Nelson Place Elementary are upset after assistant principal Cindy Homan was transferred to another school as Worcester Public Schools enter a transitional period.
