  • Westborough nonprofit Dignity Matters gives free menstrual products, underwear and bras to 18,000 women and girls by partnering with over 180 local groups. In 2024 the group distributed more than 3.7 million items—including 33,000 pairs of panties on October 2—and it will soon explore a partnership with Worcester Public Schools to better serve local needs.  Telegram & Gazette
  • The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is set to appear at the 14th Worcester Food Truck and Craft Beverage Festival on Oct. 11 at Worcester Common from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.—festival goers can snap photos with the famous vehicle and explore over 20 food trucks and craft beverage options in a lively outdoor setting.  MassLive

  • Yesterday, professionals at Country Bank, Eastern Bank Foundation, Spectrum Health Services and MutualOne Bank moved up in their careers. Jodie Gerulaitis earned the bank's top award for community work—Eva Millona began a fellowship to boost English skills, Heidi Diroberto was promoted to run outpatient services, and Michelle Rivers advanced in human resources.  Worcester Business Journal
  • In September, AbbVie began construction on its $70 million expansion of the Bioresearch Center in Worcester, aiming to add more jobs and strengthen local biotech ties. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Massachusetts business confidence has dropped in September as the Business Confidence Index fell 1.5 percentage points from August to 47.5—its seventh month in pessimistic territory. The U.S. Index slipped 5.1 points to 39.5 while the Employment and Company Indexes rose to 52.6 and 51.8 respectively.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Worcester is addressing workforce challenges with YouthConnect—a coalition of local nonprofits that has prepared over 1,000 young people for careers in industries like healthcare, retail, and trades. Local businesses can support this effort by sponsoring programs or offering mentorship to build a strong, ready talent pool.  Worcester Business Journal

  • Dr. Louis Pedraja, President of Quinsigamond Community College, said that Hispanic Heritage Month shows Latino contributions and the college's growing diversity while he warned about state plans to cut a $200 stipend that helps pay for books, rent, and food.   • A new study finds Massachusetts ranks 39 of 41 states for bullying—physical fights on school property are rated 3, in-school bullying 4, online bullying 16, attempted suicides 5 and truancy 10—with data from several federal and state sources supporting these findings.  This Week In Worcester

  • UMass Memorial Health in Worcester began construction on a satellite emergency department in Groton in September to fill the gap left when Nashoba Valley Medical Center closed in Ayer in August 2024.  Worcester Business Journal

  • Weekend high school football games in Central Mass saw Wachusett rally from behind to win by 14 points against Leominster while BVT edged Millbury in a last-minute shootout—each game delivering a dramatic finish.
