- ➤ A new sports bar called The Place will open at 102 Green St in the Canal District after the License Commission approved its alcohol license on Sept. 18. The bar will serve food and drinks with hours from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sundays — renovations are underway with an expected opening at the end of October or early November and plans for an outdoor area next year. - ➤ Former Market Basket CEO Demoulas broke his silence a week after his firing and after three allies, including Quigley, Deschene, and Alvarez, were terminated from long-serving roles. He said the firings hurt the company's team — while the board had already named Donald Mulligan as interim CEO. MassLive

- ➤ Worcester police dispatcher Fundador Morales will sing with the Handel and Haydn Society at Symphony Hall in Boston on Oct. 3 and Oct. 5 as part of the CitySing program—his first time performing with a large chorus. He started rehearsals on Sept. 20 and is excited to join nearly 100 singers to perform Handel’s oratorio Saul. Telegram & Gazette

- ➤ Local orchard managers say that despite the drought their apple trees have grown large and the harvest—usually lasting to November—may be finished by mid-October. They stress that the farms will remain open for visitors and that support will help keep the business strong. Telegram & Gazette

- ➤ Two men in their 60s tested positive for West Nile virus—likely after exposure in Worcester County—which has raised the virus risk to high for 43 communities, and public health officials advised residents to use EPA-approved mosquito repellent and wear long sleeves as warm weather continues. - ➤ Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu missed almost a month with a calf strain but will likely return tomorrow — the team delayed his activation from Saturday after additional on-field work — and he says he feels ready to help in upcoming games. MassLive
- ➤ The WooSox season is almost over and photos capture key moments from the team’s campaign — including former Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. throwing the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day at Polar Park on March 28. MassLive
- ➤ The Worcester Red Sox season featured key moments as Roman Anthony hit a 497-foot grand slam on June 7 that led to his call up while Marcelo Mayer and Jhostynxon Garcia also reached the big leagues, and pitchers Criswell, Campbell, and Webb combined for a seven-inning no-hitter on April 17. Off the field, the team celebrated with events such as Anthony’s dugout birthday party and the induction of new Hall of Fame members, and introduced a new team mascot (a rescued kitten). - ➤ Yale beat Holy Cross 28 to 10 on September 20th after former Tantasqua star Dante Reno made his Yale debut by throwing for 166 yards and a touchdown — senior Josh Pitsenberger also rushed for 127 yards and three scores.
