CRIME NEWS

  • District 5 Councilor Etel Haxhiaj, charged with assaulting and interfering with a police officer, has her hearing to dismiss the charges rescheduled from Sept. 15 to Sept. 25 — court filings reveal the change.  MassLive
  • On Monday in Worcester Superior Court, a 15-year-old girl testified that when she was 7, Joshua Hubert allegedly abducted her during a family gathering, raped her, and threw her off a bridge—forcing her to play dead to survive as jury selection and opening statements continued.  MassLive
  • Eric Sladen, a 46-year-old man from Shrewsbury, was arrested Monday, Sep. 8 on ten counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14—two counts of assault and battery, one count of witness intimidation, and two counts of breaking a harassment-prevention order.  Telegram & Gazette

  • A Fast & Furious-inspired Envisions Show will take place Sept. 13 at Fuel America — a local coffee shop on Grove Street — where models will display streetwear beside parked supercars as part of an end-of-summer event.   • Town crews in Holden finished cleaning up after a tornado hit neighborhoods on Sept 6—clearing fallen branches and restoring power to municipal lines. Town Manager Peter Lukes said homeowners are responsible for restoring power to private properties as a National Weather Service crew surveyed damage on Sept 8.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Worcester City Council will discuss requiring sprinkler systems in larger residential buildings today at City Hall’s Esther Howland chamber—some landlords worry about installation costs even as the fire chief supports the change.
