COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, nearly ten Worcester Red Sox players attended Baseball Chapel at Polar Park— a weekly service where they read Bible verses and pray for strength during games. The service, started last year, builds a close bond among players as they face challenges on the field.  Telegram & Gazette
  • In Charlton, the cow tunnel built in the 1920s was refurbished as part of ongoing conservation efforts on the nearly 100-mile Midstate Trail that honors the town’s farm history. Hikers visiting the tunnel should note that rain may cause water to build up—wear boots for safety.  Telegram & Gazette

  • A series of road races are scheduled across Central Mass — events in Worcester, Millbury, Littleton and other towns start Sept. 20 and run through December. Races range from 5K to 15K with different start times, fees and registration details provided.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Nick Reed kicked four field goals—one a 40-yarder as time expired—to give UNH a 19-16 win over Holy Cross in a game delayed by thunderstorms. Holy Cross will try to bounce back in its home opener when it hosts Rhode Island at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Fitton Field.  Telegram & Gazette
