ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Police investigated a fatal car wreck on King Philip Road in Worcester around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 31st that left one person dead—no further details have been released. Telegram & Gazette
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A deceased WPI alum, Carl Karlsson ’60, left a $12 million donation to the university to support teaching+research and enhance student life. Part of the gift will fund an early career professorship to attract new faculty and strengthen the academic community. Telegram & Gazette
- ➤ The Scholarship Fund of the Worcester District Medical Society added two $4,000 scholarships in honor of local doctor Dr. Herbert Nieburgs and his wife Suzanne Kay Nieburgs—using $350,000 from the dissolved International Society for Preventive Oncology. The scholarships will help students studying cancer and will be awarded at the society’s annual fall meeting on Nov. 20 at the Beechwood Hotel. Telegram & Gazette
