- ➤ Patrick Maloney is named the new executive director of Preservation Worcester — he takes over from Deborah Packard who will retire at the end of the month after 21 years of service. A lifelong Worcester resident with leadership roles at St. John's High School and Nativity School, he will guide the organization as it plans to restore historic sites like Salisbury House. - ➤ UMass Chan Medical School celebrated naming the Paul J. DiMare Center on July 9 when over 100 people joined the event to tour the new nine-story research building and see the donor plaque. The building was named after philanthropist Paul J. DiMare after a $35 million gift will support research into neurodegenerative and genetic diseases — a boost for future biomedical studies. - ➤ Holden was removed from the Asian long-horned beetle quarantine zone on July 10 after surveys detected no sign of the invasive species, ending years of coordinated efforts by state, agricultural and federal agencies.
