  • The Worcester Animal Rescue League teamed with MSPCA-Angell to accept stray animals from the police in early July after pausing new intakes due to capacity issues; walk-in adoptions restarted on June 23 and the new partnership aims to restructure shelter operations + set clearer roles with local Animal Control for better reunification outcomes.  MassLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Filmmaker Gyani Pradhan Wong Ah Sui will hold a fundraiser in Worcester on June 30 at the White Room to support production of the experimental short film Wither and Bloom. The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and aims to raise about $500 to $750 as part of an $11,000 crowdfunding campaign — it will feature short film screenings and a raffle — offering prizes from local businesses.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Today, the Worcester Police Department announced it is developing a new plan to improve public communication during ICE operations—this follow-up comes after the May 8 arrest of 40-year-old Brazilian Rosane Ferreira-De Oliveira on Eureka Street.   • Assistant professor Angela Incollingo Rodriguez from WPI studied if using smartphones during meals changes eating habits by enrolling 118 students in a taste test. The study showed that while participants ate more with television, using a phone did not increase food intake & raised new questions about memory and eating.  Worcester Polytechnic Institute
