  • Curator Birgit Straehle opened the 'Room of Wonders: A Worcester Wunderkammer' at the Cantor Art Gallery at Holy Cross, bringing together works from about 30 local creatives that range from handcrafted instruments to video installations—available free to the public during summer hours until July 17.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Mystic Bowie's Talking Dreads performed reggae-infused Talking Heads songs at the kick-off of the Out to Lunch Festival and Farmers Market on the Worcester Common yesterday—drawing a lively crowd despite drizzly weather. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Worcester City Council approved a nearly $1 billion operating budget for fiscal 2026—about $947.9 million—with additional funds for safer firefighter gear and a plan to separate the Parks Department from Public Works. The budget also sets aside nearly $159 million in borrowing for projects like a new fire station and school feasibility studies, with the new budget taking effect on July 1.  MassLive
  • Worcester City Council met Tuesday, June 17 to review safety measures for public officials and to consider amending a report on handling threats amid recent protests — councilors discussed past harassment, debated a plan to restrict public comments to residents, and approved the 2026 budget while deferring votes on both orders to a future meeting.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell said Tuesday, June 17, that 55 attorneys general signed onto a $7.4 billion settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family, which will provide Massachusetts up to $105 million pending court approval of Purdue’s bankruptcy plan—first payments are scheduled for early 2026—and funds will aid recovery efforts for the opioid crisis.  This Week In Worcester
