  • Worcester barber Principe Virtuez will host a free haircut and clothing event outside City Hall on Monday, June 9 for unhoused individuals—he is asking for clothing donations and plans to share his story of overcoming homelessness on his birthday.  Spectrum News 1

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today, a DARPA-funded project at WPI uses AI and 3D printing to turn scrap metal into aerospace-grade parts. The initiative will test the method with a sounding rocket and work with several subcontractors—such as Siemens—while aiming for completion in November.  Worcester Polytechnic Institute

CRIME NEWS

  • A 19-year-old Assumption student pleaded guilty Friday in Worcester to a hacking scheme that threatened to leak data of over 60 million students and 10 million teachers for $3 million—his sentencing is set for Sept. 11 while his release conditions bar internet use.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Clark University professor Amy Richter, honored as a Hometown Hero, died Monday, June 2 at 57 from ALS, her husband said. A celebration of her life—set for a future date—will honor her legacy in education and community service.  Telegram & Gazette
  • At South High graduation last Wednesday at the DCU Center, Mohammad Hamad Bidaki—an Afghan immigrant who came to Worcester as a teen—shared his story on the power of education. He asked to speak and talked about leaving his family behind—his journey from danger in Afghanistan to a new start—and urged his classmates to value learning as a basic right.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Earlier this week at The Hanover Theatre, more than 240 students received their diplomas from the Gerald Creamer Center—an accelerated program for public school students at risk of dropping out and for those returning to earn their diploma. The center was founded in 1993 as the Comprehensive Skills Center and renamed 14 years later to honor longtime teacher and coach Gerald Creamer who helped many students finish school.  Telegram & Gazette
