  • On Tuesday, about 25 seniors at Worcester Senior Center learned hydroponic gardening through 2Gether We Eat (a nonprofit youth hydroponic program) during an 8-week course that taught them to grow food indoors without soil. The center will start another class next week and celebrate its 25th anniversary (June 11).  Spectrum News 1

  • Joann stores in Massachusetts are in their final week as 15 locations offer liquidation sales with discounts of 70 to 90% on craft supplies, fabric and décor—shoppers have until May 31 to take advantage before the stores close.  Telegram & Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 1,000 UMass Memorial Health workers represented by UFCW Local 1445 have threatened to strike if contract demands on outsourcing, unsafe staffing, and wage increases are not met—workers held a rally on May 27 and planned hospital picketing today, with a contract ratification vote scheduled for June 6 if an agreement is reached.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Patriot League champion Holy Cross baseball will face the University of North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament Chapel Hill Regional from May 30 to June 2.
