Good morning, Worcester.

On May 18, a family held a celebration at Barber’s Crossing North in Sterling to honor a Fitchburg man who died on April 30, and a dispute arose when the final bill reached about $6,000—claimed to be $1,500 more than expected.

The restaurant said the charge was fair based on a larger guest count, while family members and social media posts show mixed views on the event.

On April 30, students from Worcester colleges traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with congressional staff and advocate for the protection of Pell Grants and other student aid; after the House passed a bill on May 22 that tightens financial aid rules, they are urging the Senate to support students—hoping to keep college funding available for those in need.

Webster’s Bob O’Toole, a 60-year member of Pleasant Valley Country Club, still plays 18 holes four days a week and will turn 90 on August 23.

He shows no signs of slowing down—he stays active and dedicated to golf as a key part of his life.
