- ➤ Barre will dedicate a new 9/11 memorial on Memorial Day at noon on North Common, featuring granite pillars that show the Twin Towers and a piece of limestone from the Pentagon facade (local heroes Bill O’Donnell and Dennis Fleming will lead the ceremony). Dennis Fleming built the memorial after his experience at a Worcester warehouse fire and 9/11, and it will honor victims while helping people learn its meaning (the design makes its purpose clear). - ➤ Many Central Mass towns will host Memorial Day parades and ceremonies to honor veterans, with events ranging from early flag-raising to wreath-laying at cemeteries and parks. In Worcester, a water ceremony at Elm Park is set for 1 p.m. Sunday and a Remembrance Ceremony at Hope Cemetery will begin at 9 a.m. Monday—offering local ways to remember those in service. - ➤ A Worcester mother, Rosane Ferreira-De Oliveira, was arrested on May 8 during an ICE raid at Eureka Street and is now held at Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls—her attorney says she suffered a damaged shoulder from excessive force and is not receiving pain medication while she awaits her trial on July 18 and further immigration proceedings. - ➤ Indian Ranch in Webster will host its 2025 White Claw Summer Concert Series with 24 music shows starting May 31 that feature country, rock and tribute bands after record attendance last summer.
