  • Construction has begun on four tiny homes for homeless seniors near University Park. Worcester Community Housing Resources is developing the $1.2M project at 6 Claremont St. — funded by private donations, United Way and the Affordable Housing Trust — to provide affordable housing with a first unit in September.  Telegram & Gazette

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Community Healthlink will reduce its workforce at sites in Worcester, Webster, and Leominster from June 30 to July 6 as transition negotiations continue.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Beverly-based Rucker Investments acquired Worcester-based Pagio, Inc., publisher of Pulse Magazine and CM Pride Magazine, on Friday. The two publications will operate under the new media company Merit House Media led by Kate McEvoy, a local executive with experience at regional institutions.  Worcester Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • On May 31 at 3 p.m., Worcester JCC will screen 'Midas Man,' a biographical drama about Beatles manager Brian Epstein as the final film of the Central Mass International Jewish Film Festival (tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door).  Telegram & Gazette
  • Local musician Gio Petrella has returned with three new singles after last fall’s album and his January release. He debuted 'Reinforcements' on March 20, 'Carrying Water' on April 1, and 'Reset' on April 20 — tracks that blend upbeat sounds with thoughtful lyrics.  Telegram & Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, WPI (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) received a $5 million award from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to launch the Central Massachusetts Climatetech Hub Incubator. The project will renovate lab space in Worcester to give startups access to resources for sustainable tech and workforce training.  Worcester Polytechnic Institute

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMass Chan Medical School professor Eviatar Yemini has received his second consecutive Scialog Collaborative Innovation Award for his interdisciplinary project on how temperature affects neural development. He is one of 15 recipients from the US and Canada awarded $60,000 as part of a three-year program.  UMass Chan Medical School

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grafton voters approved a $5 million override to support public schools with a tax increase of $146 per year over five years after a town meeting approved the ballot question. Northbridge is still counting votes for a $3.3 million override.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Central Massachusetts single-family home sales dropped in April as Worcester County recorded 390 sales, 15.2% lower than last year + Worcester saw 59 sales with prices rising 4.6% to $458,000, signaling a shift toward pre-winter market trends.  Worcester Business Journal
