COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Worcester Firefighters 6K will run on June 1 at Institute Park with a 1K kids’ fun run at 11 a.m. and 3K and 6K races at 11:30 a.m.—the 25th anniversary event now has about 1,200 participants and has raised more than $750,000 for local charities while honoring firefighters lost in duty.  Telegram & Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Asa Waters Mansion in Millbury is a 200-year-old Georgian Colonial landmark built in 1826 and restored after falling into disrepair in the 1990s—it will celebrate its 200th birthday next year with community events including weddings and holiday festivals.  Telegram & Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Assumption University held its undergraduate commencement on May 18 at the DCU Center where 349 graduates received their diplomas. The Class of 2025 includes 213 from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, 17 from the Froelich School of Nursing, and 119 from the Grenon School of Business with students ranging from 20 to 45 years old representing 16 states and four countries.  Telegram & Gazette
  • At Worcester State University's graduation held Saturday, hundreds of students received diplomas as Senator Elizabeth Warren urged them to face challenges and be open to unexpected opportunities.   • UMass Chan will hold its 52nd Commencement on Sunday, June 1, with degrees awarded to 265 students on the campus green in front of the Paul J. DiMare Center and the ceremony livestreamed on YouTube.   • MassDOT and the Registry of Motor Vehicles launched a self-service citations data portal on May 14 that gives users real-time access to citation data via interactive dashboards and pre-built reports — the portal protects personal information under privacy laws and aims to boost road safety through transparency.  This Week In Worcester
