  • Worcester resident Wilson Lam used performance art at City Council on May 5 to highlight pothole issues that have led to costly repairs and near accidents — he said he plans to return weekly and may run for mayor in 2028.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Market on Exchange begins its second season this Sunday, May 17, from 11 AM to 2 PM on Exchange Street between Main and Commercial.   • The Esler Family Foundation donated $350K to the Boys & Girls Club to fund mental and behavioral health programs and launch a long term partnership. The club will name its new mental health office The Kindness Space to expand services like mentoring and counseling.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Central Mass. Grown (a coalition of local farmers) updated a guide on outdoor farmers markets with schedules running from May through October.   • Danielle O’Neal (Senior VP of Life Sciences at Banc of California) explained on Aux Talks that life sciences startups face a challenging fundraising market today due to a slow IPO market and limited investor liquidity; she urged founders to build strong advisory boards to strengthen their pitches, with the discussion recorded in Worcester.  Radio Worcester

  • Worcester State launched its first Artist-in-Residence program by naming local music legend Kaz Supernova. His residency began in April with a screening of Wortown Rising and a follow-up discussion that brought together local students and community partners.  Worcester State University

  • Six Worcester State students won Library Research Awards on April 22 for their research and creative work on campus. The awards include an Oral Presentation Award for Alyssa Bedard + five $500 poster awards for projects ranging from AI to anticancer research.  Worcester State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers report that treatment methods for beech leaf disease (caused by a nematode affecting European and American beeches) are showing promise for preserving tree health in Massachusetts forests.   • Worcester's Green Worcester Plan makes progress with a zero-waste master plan finishing by June and phase two of a stormwater plan to reduce floods, though officials say cutting building emissions remains a challenge (solar projects and tree plantings show gains) amid conflicting policies.  Telegram & Gazette

  • On May 13, Nipmuc and St. Paul softball teams hosted a Fight Like A Kid fundraiser behind Nipmuc Regional High School to support Dudley teen David Breault as he fights brain cancer. The game raised funds for his treatment and united the community.  Telegram & Gazette
