BUSINESS NEWS

  • GBH News announced it will relocate its Worcester bureau from 27 Federal St. to the main branch of the Worcester Public Library at 3 Salem Square — the shift is intended to bring its one full-time reporter closer to the local community.  Worcester Business Journal
  • 122 Diner in Holden will reopen today after closing following a March crash that damaged its brick exterior. Owners have been repairing the building while community donations helped employees cover lost wages.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Polar Beverages is expanding its local operations by leasing 35,000 sqft at a Quinsigamond Village warehouse, adding to its 1.4M sqft Massachusetts footprint (the deal was announced in a press release).  Worcester Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Professor Susan Elizabeth Sweeney, a Holy Cross English professor and longtime supporter of local poetry, is honored as the 12th recipient of the Stanley Kunitz Medal. She will give a reading and receive her medal on July 23 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) at the Museum of Worcester.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Worcester hosts cultural events this week (e.g., 'Ben Franklin's Musical Curiosity' at the Museum on May 2, a performance by the Fools at BrickBox Theater and a Star Wars marathon at the Hanover Theatre on May 4). EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Healey announced after touring a Marlborough vocational school on Thursday that $70 million in career technical education funding will benefit nearly 30 schools, expand 23 programs, launch 27 new ones, and create about 2,500 new training seats.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Voters in West Brookfield will decide on a tax override (with varying proposals) on May 5 to keep West Brookfield Elementary School open amid declining enrollment and rising costs. A rally to support the measure is set for May 2 at the West Brookfield Common.  MassLive
  • Clark University in Worcester announced Wednesday that it is launching a master of education program for working teachers designed to improve classroom skills. The program offers full- or part-time study with three free courses for Worcester Public Schools teachers (US applications due July 15; international ones due June 1).  Worcester Business Journal

  • The state is removing the Wheelwright Dam in Hardwick to restore the Ware River’s natural flow this summer; local power supplier Luke Wright worries that released sediment could affect his dam (Pioneer Hydro Electric) even as officials assert the plan minimizes risk.  Telegram & Gazette
