ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 18-year-old from Milford was killed in a single-car crash early April 14th on Quaker Street when his 2010 Honda Civic left the road at high speed—Northbridge police said investigators with the Accident Reconstruction Team and state police are reviewing the incident.  Telegram & Gazette
  • On April 14, a father trapped with his toddler on the roof of a deli storefront at 66 Vernon St in Worcester dropped his child 12 feet to a waiting police officer during a raging third-alarm fire — firefighters rescued the father and said at least a dozen tenants would be displaced while the deli and grocery store closed temporarily.  Telegram & Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • An Auburn police officer was arrested on April 14 at a police station by state police detectives in connection with an online sting investigation in Berkshire County and was placed on administrative leave as internal and criminal probes proceed—Auburn Police Chief Todd Lemon said the alleged misconduct did not involve on-duty behavior and further inquiries will be directed to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Scott Casper invites the public to the AAS Open House, which celebrates 250 years since Isaiah Thomas brought The Massachusetts Spy to Worcester. He joined Talk of the Commonwealth to preview an event that will honor the city’s revolutionary print history.  Radio Worcester
  • The Hanover Theatre announced its 2025-26 season today with new subscription offerings for its Broadway series, THT Rep and dance series—each featuring a range of shows from SIX (Oct. 14 to 19), Chicago (Jan. 9 to 11), STOMP (Feb. 20 to 22), The Music Man (May 15 to 17) and a mystery play with details on Sept. 22, to THT Rep productions like Doubt, the Edgar Allen Poe Double Header, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Who is Eartha Mae, and dance performances by Parsons Dance, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Cirque Kalabanté and Dance Theatre of Harlem.  Telegram & Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The union representing faculty at Quinsigamond Community College voted no confidence in President Luis Pedraja after the college did not reappoint several full-time administrative staff who are people of color. It said members will only do their contract duties through a work to rule action—until Pedraja steps down or the dismissed staff are reinstated.  Telegram & Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Joe Petty will be honored at the Worcester Black Tie Gala on May 10 when he receives the Salute to Achievement Award, as announced by organizers Mark O'Flaherty + Wayne LeBlanc.  Radio Worcester
  • Nine hate crimes were reported in Worcester in 2024—five of which were anti-Black and involved vandalism to vehicles and a school—and police chief Paul B. Saucier’s report will be reviewed by City Council today. A Public Works report estimates that upgrades to the Newton Square Rotary tennis courts will cost between $2.5 million and $3 million and take six months while councilors consider proposals on endowment investments and resident representation on college boards.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Today, the Worcester Police gave a report to the City Council on ShotSpotter, a system that uses sensors to find gunshots and guide officers on foot patrols. The report showed that from 2022 to 2024, police picked up 773 shell casings in 2024 and recorded 24 fatal and 74 non-fatal shootings — most occurring in the eight square mile area.  This Week In Worcester
