- ➤ A Spencer woman pleaded guilty on April 11 in Worcester federal court to fraudulently obtaining nearly $42,000 in Social Security benefits for a deceased beneficiary from 2006 to 2021 — she faces sentencing on July 23 with a possible 30-year prison term. Telegram & Gazette

- ➤ UMass Chan MD/PhD student Ayush Kumar, who grew up in Worcester, won the AMA Research Challenge in February for his study on increasing radio sensitivity in triple negative breast cancer by targeting a specific cell surface protein.
