  • The Honey Dew Donuts at 99 Gold Star Blvd. closed permanently on March 19th due to leasing issues with the landlord—Commercial Management Inc. is now listing the building for lease, and the closure leaves Worcester with five remaining Honey Dew locations.  MassLive

  • A 33-year-old woman wanted for credit card fraud, shoplifting, and leaving the scene of an accident was caught after police found her hiding in the attic of a house on Mohawk Ave in Webster—she came down on her own.  Telegram & Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Worcester Polytechnic Institute ranked 18th on the U.S. News & World Report list for best return on investment—estimated at $3,408,000 over 40 years and $258,000 after 10 years. The school’s undergraduate Class of 2023 earned an average salary of $80,440 six months after graduation, which is above the national average.  Worcester Polytechnic Institute
  • Worcester Public Schools high school graduates now receive automatic admission to Quinsigamond Community College through a new partnership that gives nearly 2,000 students direct entry starting with the Class of 2025.   • Today, the Worcester City Council meets in the Esther Howland Room at City Hall to review a Department of Justice report showing that police used too much force, treated people unfairly, and engaged in illegal sex with vulnerable women — the council will also discuss a letter from Police Chief Paul Saucier that details changes to the department’s K-9 and prostitution sting policies.  MassLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • During a recent webinar, Patricia Boozang said that if deep federal cuts occur, Massachusetts will need to boost spending by 20% to keep its MassHealth program—covering about 2 million residents—fully funded.   • Yume Dumplings, located at 5 Pleasant St. in downtown Worcester, opened in early 2024 and quickly became known for its creative menu including soup dumplings, pan-seared pork dumplings and a chicken katsu sandwich — a twist on classic flavors. Owners Samuel and Crystal Cheng, who previously ran Blue Shades, plan to bring back their popular waffles someday while giving guests a unique Asian fusion dining option.  MassLive
