  • A Michigan firm created a viral video case study on the Kelley Square redesign, showing how the update changed a dangerous intersection into a center peanut layout with safer pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a special meeting on March 16, the Gateway School Committee voted unanimously to move $383,832 from capital stabilization into the general fund to restore positions scheduled for cuts (some funds were originally set aside for a new roof). This decision may lead to higher town assessments later.  MassLive
  • The Jewelry Co-Op, a new nonprofit teaching STEAM and business skills by upcycling discarded jewelry, will launch on Mar. 28 at Downtown Worcester's JMAC BrickBox Theater. Developed by Teree Thomas-Perez of The T.E.C. Schools with help from EforAll, it will offer after-school programs and makers' nights.  Worcester Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Healey’s office announced a state loan program that offers homeowners up to $250,000 as a second mortgage to add an accessory dwelling unit to their property. The program, available statewide, excludes applicants with incomes over 135% (around $165,345 in Worcester County) and requires local permits before construction begins.  This Week In Worcester

  • The Worcester Zoning Board of Appeals advanced a proposal for a 19-story skyscraper featuring 225 apartments and retail space at 56 Pleasant St. on Monday; the project by New-York-based Radson Development now heads to the planning board for review as local residents back the new housing plan.  MassLive
