BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bryan Regele was promoted to chief loan officer at Webster First Federal Credit Union (he oversaw commercial lending) after the credit union led the state in 2025 commercial loans. Regele will head all lending divisions, replacing Talat Mufti, per a Friday press release from President & CEO John Thomasian.  Worcester Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Worcester St. Patrick’s Parade will take place on March 15 at noon from Webster Square finishing at Highland Street plus it is preceded by the Guinness Celtic 5K at 11 a.m. and the Kids Leprechaun Run, with Jim Browne serving as grand marshal.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Last Tuesday, March 3, Worcester Regional Airport dedicated a 12-foot steel silhouette of native Robert H. Goddard (Father of Modern Rocketry) to honor the 100th anniversary of the Goddard Project and celebrate his pioneering work in modern rocketry.  Telegram & Gazette
  • A new reader poll invites locals to help choose the best fish and chips in Central Mass via a bracket contest starting with 16 nominees. Nominations are accepted through Friday and voting begins Monday, March 9 + each round lasts one week until a winner is declared.  Telegram & Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Healey and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education announced that 35.8% of last year’s high school graduates scored 3 or higher on an AP exam, the highest rate ever recorded in the nation while Black students achieved the nation’s second highest percentage.  This Week In Worcester

SPORTS NEWS

  • Six Massachusetts athletes, including veteran Laurie Stephens who has seven medals, will represent the state at the Paralympic Games in Milan Cortina starting tomorrow, Mar. 6. The team features both experienced competitors and newcomers in sports like sled hockey and para alpine skiing.  MassLive
  • Worcester State won the MASCAC title on Sunday afternoon at the Woodward Center when freshman Joe Okla scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to edge Westfield State 73-71 and secure an NCAA bid. The win + boosted local pride in a tightly contested championship.  MassLive
  • Bay State Conference girls basketball teams advanced to the quarterfinals Tuesday. Needham beat Woburn 54-46 after a 4-point deficit, Braintree held Billerica 45-33 with strong defense, and Natick outscored Quincy 65-37; they will face the winner of Bridgewater-Raynham versus Springfield Central, Bishop Feehan, and Wachusett on Friday.  MassLive
