  • On Saturday, Feb. 21, supporters held a vigil for Oakham native David Hutchinson outside Fobes Memorial Library — at 4 Maple St — where lanterns were lit and red clothing was encouraged to honor his memory after he was killed in South Carolina.  Telegram & Gazette

  • A $250K winning ticket from the Winter Winnings scratch game was claimed at Energy North in Littleton Friday & a $100K prize was won at Worcester’s Xtra Mart from the Colossal Millions game, adding to over 550 winning prizes across the state.  MassLive
  • Fast-food chain Checkers opened its first New England location Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 99 Gold Star Blvd in Worcester. The new spot, replacing a former Honey Dew Donuts shop, offers burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, wings and more for quick bites.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Worcester native Noriyoshi Needle is renovating a century-old abandoned house in Himeji — near Osaka — into an artist residency called Kiwama, and he has raised funds for roof repairs and technical work to create studios, a kitchen, and common spaces for artists.  MassLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for central Massachusetts starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 until 7 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, with 6 to 15 inches of snow and 50-mph gusts expected while Worcester enforces a parking ban with free garage parking (until further notice).  Telegram & Gazette
