  • On Jan. 24, Worcester offers several events including a free admission day at EcoTarium where USA Luge athletes demo sledding and winter science, a $45 Dark Winter tour featuring Lord of the Lost at the Palladium, The Metrons playing at WCUW’s FrontRoom, and The Fools rocking in Webster.  Telegram & Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • National Grid and its foundation announced a plan to distribute $5 million over the next two years to help eligible households facing high energy bills during this cold winter. The relief, coordinated with United Way of Central Massachusetts plus local nonprofits, will target seniors and low-income families.  Telegram & Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WPI announced a new bachelor of science in artificial intelligence program to address the growing gap in skilled AI workers. The course builds on the institute’s interdisciplinary training & prepares students for high-demand roles in healthcare, manufacturing, and finance.  Worcester Polytechnic Institute

HEALTH NEWS

  • Fallon Health CEO Manny Lopes said the company will not downsize as it merges with Mass General Brigham while regulators review the deal. The insurer plans to maintain jobs and services (in Worcester and central Mass.) as acquisition talks continue.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Heywood Healthcare (based in Gardner) is seeking a new chief medical officer as current CMO Dr. Frank Sweeney is set to retire; the system operates two of Central Massachusetts’ largest hospitals.  Worcester Business Journal
  • UMass Chan Medical School has licensed its siRNA therapy to nonprofit PLaN Therapeutics to work on a new treatment for a rare heart condition. The groups will improve the therapy's durability and delivery (possibly enabling a patient-friendly dosing schedule) as research moves from lab to clinic.  UMass Chan Medical School

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Peabody-based real estate research firm The Warren Group (data provided Tuesday) reported that home prices in Central Mass. climbed in 2025, rising faster than the statewide 3.7% increase as Worcester County prices rose 4.3% to $480,000 and Middlesex County prices increased 4.7% to $852,500.  Worcester Business Journal
