- ➤ Uxbridge officer Stephen LaPorta was laid to rest on Jan. 15 at St. Mary Church, with hundreds of officers and local officials attending a two-hour funeral Mass. His badge was displayed and a radio end-of-watch tribute was given on Route 16. Telegram & Gazette

- ➤ The former director of marketing at the DCU Center was named as the new general manager at the local facility. He replaces Sandy Dunn, who retired in January after 30 years of leading the downtown arena and convention center. Worcester Business Journal
- ➤ Boston Scientific, a Marlborough-based medical device manufacturer, has signed a deal to acquire California-based Penumbra for $14.5 billion. The move adds to its series of acquisitions and aims to strengthen its healthcare product portfolio. Worcester Business Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today at City Hall, the City of Worcester and WPI signed an agreement to launch the Academic Civic Collaborative that will help local projects with a design focus—together with the newly announced Design and Community Partnership, which links WPI, the City and AIACM to benefit Worcester neighborhoods. - ➤ Worcester State University hosted STEM events including the ACS Northeast Regional Meeting where over 400 attendees joined faculty workshops and celebrated a student poster award. - ➤ Worcester State University and the University of Limerick launched a five-year agreement that allows high-achieving humanities and social science students to enter master’s programs in Europe directly, with BA Spanish Translation graduates gaining admission to UL’s Master of Arts in Translation — the plan runs through 2030 with annual reviews. - ➤ A New York developer's plan for a 19-story tower with 225 units (about 100 more than originally proposed) raised concerns at a recent Zoning Board meeting over limited community input, parking, and landscaping plans.
