  • Worcester-based nonprofit Pawsitively 4 Pink was honored when its president Kathy Chapman was named a New England Patriots Difference Maker on Jan. 4, earning a $10,000 grant from the Patriots Foundation; the group also received a bonus grant from Grapevine and Nextdoor to aid low-income breast cancer patients.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Nurys Camargo, formerly a commissioner at the Worcester-based Cannabis Control Commission, has been promoted to senior vice president of member services at AIM (Boston), and Courtney Sullivan is now chief of staff; the moves aim to strengthen AIM's team serving 3,400 member companies.  Worcester Business Journal
  • UniBank CEO Welch (who joined in 2019 after 15 years as headmaster at St. John's High School in Shrewsbury) will step down in June, and the bank is now searching for his successor.  Worcester Business Journal

  • South Shore-formed Good Trees River Band, frequent performers in Worcester, released the new record 'Blowin’ Smoke' yesterday, featuring easygoing jams, lively instrumentals, and playful lyrics (available on streaming services and Bandcamp).  Telegram & Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UMass Chan Medical student Jaein Jung has launched the Lantern Project to connect medical students with local refugee teens. The program is part of a community health clerkship that runs through March and offers English classes, volunteer support, and career tours (to help teens see health care options).  UMass Chan Medical School
  • Worcester Public Schools will host open houses – from today to Jan. 26 to help families get ready for preschool and kindergarten enrollment. The district will also offer online info sessions on Jan. 16 and Jan. 23 to answer questions and explain the process.  Telegram & Gazette

  • Gov. Maura Healey ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor of Uxbridge police officer Stephen LaPorta, who died assisting a motorist in a multi-vehicle crash Jan. 7 (Uxbridge); Worcester County District Attorney and Uxbridge Police Chief planned a media briefing later at 3:30 p.m.  Telegram & Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • UMass Memorial Health has incorporated Milford Regional Physician Group, adding 135 physicians, 113 advanced practice providers, and 386 staff (boosting local care). The change promises expanded expertise in our health services.  Worcester Business Journal
