  • National Grid said residents will have stable electricity by Saturday, Jan. 10, after months of trouble since Black Friday due to a faulty underground cable. Mobile generators are powering 16 properties while replacement cable work waits on local permits and property rights.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Residents in a local neighborhood have faced repeated power outages since Black Friday due to a failed underground cable, which disrupted essential treatments. National Grid said it will replace the cable with generator fixes starting Saturday (the repair plan remains uncertain for some residents).  7 News Boston

  • Fallon Health has signed a three-year extension to sponsor accessible seating and two Silver Slugger games for WooSox, confirming a strong local partnership that began in 2018. The deal, announced in a Monday press release, will support events on April 23 + Aug. 26.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Cornerstone Bank completed its $2.4B merger with Athol Savings Bank — making Athol a division of the Worcester-based institution when the merger took effect on Dec. 31. The deal, finalized in 2025, expands Cornerstone Bank’s footprint in the local market.  Worcester Business Journal
  • Cornerstone Bank and Athol Savings Bank merged on Dec. 31 — Athol Savings Bank continues as a division of Cornerstone while retaining all its employees, and full digital services expand across both networks.   • Worcester Regional Chamber CEO Tim Murray detailed plans for jobs, housing and transportation to boost economic growth in the region. He said the Chamber will host a regional housing conference to bring together local leaders for practical housing solutions in Worcester.  Radio Worcester

  • UMass Chan Medical School researchers led by Saranathan and Banerjee used a new brain mapping tool (sTHOMAS) on MRI scans to study Alzheimer’s and FTD patients’ subcortical brain regions; early tissue loss in these areas may help in predicting and tracking dementia progression.  UMass Chan Medical School

  • A local developer plans to build 197 new apartments on Madison Properties' land near Polar Park — in Worcester’s district improvement financing area. The project will add housing and support local redevelopment.  Worcester Business Journal
  • A long-dormant Spag’s warehouse is set to join a 25.5-acre redevelopment project at Route 9 and Maple Avenue in Shrewsbury, proposed by local developer Sam Adams (of Spagtacular LLC), with plans to transform the site unfolding soon.  Worcester Business Journal

  • St. John's goalie Colin McCarthy won Hometeam Hockey Player of the Week with 8,085 votes (27.4 percent) out of over 29,500 ballots cast last week as the YMCA of Central Massachusetts spotlighted top hockey performances.  Telegram & Gazette
  • Shepherd Hill's Jillian Clarke won last week's Hometeam Girls' Basketball Player of the Week poll by topping the vote count with 1,451 votes + defeating Tahanto's Avery Gendron, who got 1,016 votes.
